William Melahn, MD, FAAFP
Site Director
Dr. Melahn has worked for Saint Claire since 1997 when he came as a National Health Service Corps scholar. He graduated in 1994 from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1997. In 2004 he was a winner of the AAFP Foundation/Pfizer Teacher Development Awards. His professional interests include family-centered maternity care, child, adolescent and college healthcare, medical informatics and evidence-based medicine, and doctor-patient communication. He is Medical Director of Student Health at Morehead State University as well as Site Director of the residency program.
Dr. Melahn lives in Morehead with his wife and three children, Molly, Peter, and Mary Catherine. He enjoys traveling, hiking, and cooking BBQ as well as hanging out at the Fuzzy Duck café in Morehead with his wife and kids.
Craig Burrows, MD, FAAFP
Dr. Burrows is the medical director of the St. Claire Family Care Clinic in Morehead, which is a primary care clinic. He graduated from medical school at SUNY Buffalo and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Saint Vincent's in Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. Burrows has extensive experience precepting residents and medical students. During residency he won the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teaching Award. He has undertaken several medical missions to Africa and South America. His interests include the spiritual aspects of medicine, family-centered maternity care, inpatient care, practice management, and geriatrics. He also follows many patients at our local nursing homes.
Craig lives in Rowan County with his wife Brenda and their four very energetic children. He enjoys running and working as a member of his church.
Amy Conley-Sallaz, MD
Associate Site Director
Dr. Conley is the Medical Director of the Elliott County Medical Clinic, one of our model rural family health centers. She is a native of eastern Kentucky and graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Family Medicine through the University of Kentucky's Rural Training Track program in Hazard. Her interests include family-centered maternity care and colposcopy and LEEP procedures.
She and her husband Rob live in Rowan County. Dr. Conley enjoys volunteering with the Girl Scouts and drives a really cool convertible.
Mary Jane Humkey, MD
Dr. Humkey is originally from Illinois. She graduated from Northwestern University Medical School and completed my residency in Family Practice at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Dr. Humkey joined the staff at St. Claire Regional in 1985, as a part of the Primary Care Clinic system. She has watched the Primary Care Clinic system grow over the past 20 years. She has served as Medical Director for Primary Care since 1995, and rotates to all of our clinics to serve patients. Dr. Humkey's professional interest are child sexual abuse, and providing medical evaluations for child victims in the area.
Sylvia Kerr, CNM
Sylvia Kerr has been a certified nurse midwife with St. Claire since October 1988. She received her nursing education at Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School in Batin Rouge, LA. Her midwifery education was completed at the University of Mississippi Nursing Midwifery Education Program in Jackson, MS in 1984. She has attended births in multiple settings including hospitals and birth centers. Sylvia is an advocate of family centered maternity care and feels that her philosophy meshes extremely well with family physicians. Lactation counseling is a strong area of interest and she received lactation counselor certification in February 1998.
Sylvia and her husband, Wade, have three children and four grandchildren.
Carolyn Moore, MD
Dr. Moore graduated from the Medical College of Virginia and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She worked in Appalachian Virginia prior to coming to St. Claire. Her interests include family-centered maternity care, women’s health, colposcopy and LEEP procedures. She is the medical director of Emergency Medical Services in Carter County.
Her personal interests include horseback riding and gardening on her farm in Fleming County as well as volunteering at Morehead Montessori.
Rachel L. Short, MD
Rachel L. Short, MD is a graduate of University of Kentucky College of Medicine and UK's Family Practice residency. She is originally from Olive Hill, KY, and now makes Menifee County her home. They have 3 cats, (Jack, William; Steven), 1 dog (Roscoe), 1 fish and 20 pet mice. Dr. Short enjoys women's and children's health issues. On her days off, she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, reading, and painting.
Denis Aliker, MD
Denis was born in Gulu, Northern Uganda. He lived and attended school both in Kenya and Uganda. He continued his education at Berea College where he obtained his undergraduate studies. Dr. Aliker graduated from University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2005. He rotated at St. Claire Regional as 4th year medical student and has a strong interest in the medically underserved and international medical missions.
