THE CENTER FOR HEALTH, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH (CHER)
The Center for Health Education & Research, Morehead, KY is the fruit of a collaborative effort by St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky. Construction began in 2008 and will be completed in June, 2010. St. Claire Regional programs moving to the new building include St. Claire Regional Family Medicine-Morehead, the St. Claire Regional Family Medicine Residency Program, St. Claire Telecare and the Northeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center.
Currently, resident continuity clinics are located in Frenchburg and Sandy Hook – 28 miles from St. Claire Regional Medical Center. With the completion of the new building, the residency continuity clinic will move to a state-of-the-art patient centric facility located in the new Center. The Residency administrative offices and residents’ lounge will also be moved to the new building. Moving the continuity clinic will decrease resident travel time and will help facilitate such patient-centered activities as attending continuity deliveries at the hospital.
We realize there are unique and special training opportunities in the current continuity clinic sites. SCR has rural health clinics located in Frenchburg, Olive Hill, Owingsville and Sandy Hook providing distinct experiences for rural family medicine residents. We are developing a Health Professions Shortage Area experience giving residents the opportunity to learn the ropes of bread and butter Family Medicine in one of these federally designated shortage areas.
